I work in the Research Computing Facility of the
Cornell Center for Materials Research.
I do all sorts of things related to computing here.
I write programs, configure Windows 2000/XP and Linux systems,
answer computer-related questions, and introduce people to our poster printer.
Other Activities
I am an undergraduate student in Computer Science. I received my A.S. at
Tompkins Cortland Community College and am currently on track to
receive a B.S. in Computer Science at SUNY Empire State College next Spring (2008).
I also plan to study some areas of Cognitive Science, Linguistics, and Artificial Intelligence.
Interests
-
Computers
In my spare time I like to experiment with Linux, my operating system of choice for the past few years.
I especially like to stress my computers, and as a result I have less respect for
certain unnamed operating systems originating in Redmond, WA than *nix.
Since the “other” operating system is a fact of life, and is necessary and helpful to many of my friends
and associates, I also spend considerable time learning its quirks.
-
Human Language
Foreign languages are very interesting to me. I have spent time studying two (French and Spanish)
and would like to become fluent in them. I hope to study and do some research about natural-language-based
computer interfaces at some point.
Contact information
I can be found in E17 & E20 Clark Hall most often, though I am sometimes in 302 Thurston Hall.
The phone number that I am most likely to be reached at is 5-6065 (Barry Robinson),
but my email address is a more reliable way to contact me.
