Community Programs

Overview

The Educational Programs Office (EPO) currently runs several programs that attempt to increase the exposure of the community to scientific concepts and new technological achievements. The EPO runs the "Ask a Scientist" column in the local paper, Families Learning Science Together (FLST), Chemistry Day at the Mall, and has partnerships with the Ithaca Sciencenter and the Tompkins County Public Library.

In addition, we have collaborated with the community to advance scientific understanding and participation of traditionally underrepresented groups: Science and Mathematics Saturday Academy, which addresses African-American students; Esperanza, which addresses Latino students; and Expanding Your Horizons, which addresses middle school girls. EPO has working relationships with minority undergraduate student organizations and presents programs at Lansing Residential Center, which houses teenage girls.
