Adult Panel Discussion
The Adult Panel Session is an opportunity for parents to discuss how they can promote the participation of their daughters in math, science, and engineering with prominent women scientists. The panelists will describe their own careers, including how the math and science classes they took in high school and college helped them get where they are today. The session will also include a question and answer period to allow further discussion of topics of interest.
Stay tuned for 2010 panelists!
If you have any suggestions for panelists, please contact Michelle Chavis (mac238).
Past Adult Panels:
- 2009 Adult Panel
- Prof. Laura Harrington is an Associate Professor in Entomology at Cornell. Her Ph.D. is in medical entomology from UMass Amherst and she currently studies mosquitoes and global health.
- Celeste Carmichael works with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, connecting people, programs, and projects to Cornell University through 4-H. Her bachelor's degree is in biology and she holds a master's degree in environmental resource engineering. At the Cooperative Extension, she plans, facilitates, and coordinates programs with a focus on science, engineering, and technology.
- Prof. Barbara Finlay received her BA in psychobiology, and her Ph.D. from MIT in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. She has been at Cornell's Department of Psychology ever since. Her research is on the evolution and development of eyes and brains, and she currently has a daughter in graduate school studying biology.
- Prof. Claudia Fischbach-Teschl is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Cornell. Her Ph.D. is in Pharmaceutical Technology, from the University of Regensburg in Germany, and her research focuses on applying engineering strategies to study cancer.
- Prof. Eun-Ah Kim is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Cornell, with a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois. She studies how phenomena arise from microscopic physics in strongly correlated systems such as high-temperature superconductors.
