Project Description
: Solid-state lighting has finally given a quantum facelift to the lightbulb.  Quantum well and dot based light emitters are revolutionizing the conversion of electricity to light, with the goal of near 100% efficiency within reach for blue and red wavelengths.  The Jena group is investigating designs exploiting quantum design and tunneling to enable next generation of highly efficient lighting sources that can communicate with each other, and enable next generation secure encrypted light-fidelity (LiFi) systems. Summer projects will involve the design, fabrication, measurements, and analysis of quantum light sources, and their use in lighting and secure communications..
