More Than Just a Research Opportunity

There is more to life than materials research! On the weekends and in the evenings, program participants get together for a variety of planned and spontaneous activities. For example, last year's participants went on a number of weekend excursions, including:

Niagara Falls

Our program offers an optional day trip to Niagara Falls, New York to see one of the United States most beautiful natural wonders. Much excitement awaits you in Niagara USA. Take a ride on the Maid of the Mist, tour the Cave of the Winds or ride the Whirlpool Jet Boat. If you prefer, you may also venture over to the Canadian side where other exciting attractions are offered. Take a stroll down the infamous Clifton Street, take a ride up the Skylon Tower or spend the afternoon at MarineLand. Be sure to bring proper ID with you so that you can re-enter the US.

New York City

Taking a small break from the small town flavor of Ithaca, REU participants can take an optional day trip to New York City to see what the Big Apple has to offer! Take time to visit the Museum of Natural History (one of the many museums in NYC), take in a Broadway play, feed the animals at the Central Park Zoo, shop at Macy's, tour Madison Square Garden or head over to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. As you can see, NYC has something for everyone.
