Throughout the week, New York State chemistry teachers participated in a variety of activities such as lectures by Cornell faculty, hands-on laboratory activities and research facility tours. Through these activities, the teachers developed an appreciation for modern chemistry, learned about recent advances in the field and gained a deeper understanding of the topics they teach.

The 2008 CICT program ran from July 14 - July 18 and included the following talks, labs and activities:

  • Lab Safety Training
  • "Free Enery & Entropy" (Prof. Melissa Hines)
  • Name That Salt Lab (Hines Research Group)
  • "Organic Chemistry " (Prof. Jón Njarðarson)
  • Oil of Wintergreen Synthesis Lab (Njarðarson Research Group)
  • Chemistry Research Lab Tours (Crane, Collum and Marohn Research Groups)
  • Mining the Internet (Chemistry Librarian Leah Solla)
  • Teacher developed labs sharing session
  • "Organic Chemistry " (Prof. Tom Ruttledge)
  • Liquid CO2 Extraction of Limonene from Orange Rind Lab (Lars Washburn)
  • "Fuel Cells" (Prof. Héctor Abruña)
