Olympus BX51
Micrograph taken by optical microcopy (transmission mode), showing partly-etched calcite crystals grown in hydrogel. The inset picture was taken by using polarizing disk to highlight where the residual crystals locate. After etch, membranes showing interference fringes left around the crystals, which was the hydrogel occluded inside the crystal during growth.
