SEM image of a cross section of an electrochemically active region on a sputtered Pt-Sn-Fe composition spread. Two distinct grain types – tall platelets, separated by short columns – are present. This image shows that bulk composition data obtained with EDS may not accurately reflect the composition of the active phase.
