The CCMR is pleased to announce that Dr. Mariena Silvestry Ramos joined our technical team in October 2015. Mariena majored in biology at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez and received her PhD in 2009, studying the structure of human adenovirus at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She has since worked at the New York Structural Biology Center in Manhattan, the University of Western Ontario and most recently as a research scientist at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Mariena has extensive experience with cryo-EM, electron tomography, high pressure freezing, freeze-substitution, single particle cryo-electron microscopy, and more.

Although she vowed to never again live somewhere as cold or snowy as London, Ontario, we are pleased that Mariena is now braving the cold and challenging Ithaca winters. Feel free to stop in and talk with Mariena about anything related to electron microscopy, cats, baking, crime shows, or just to say hi. Mariena currently manages the cryo-TEM and air-SEM in the Physical Sciences Building, her office is in PSB Room B88.  (http://www.ccmr.cornell.edu/about/facility-manager-contacts/)
