Well-Defined Thin Films of Transition-Metal-Oxide Electrocatalysts

Professor: Jin Suntivich

Project Description:
A growing interest in clean energy technology is driving the search for better electrocatalysts for fuel cells and electrolyzers. This pursuit requires understanding interfacial thermodynamics, kinetics, and reaction mechanisms on electrocatalytic surfaces. This project will teach the student how to use the thin-film deposition tools to prepare electrocatalytic oxides for fundamental electrochemical studies. On these model transition-metal-oxide films, the student will obtain the structure-property relations using surface science tools, from which the student will reveal the materials parameters critical for electrochemical reactions.
