Physical Sciences Building B05 (Primary Staff: Mariena Silvestry Ramos; Secondary Staff: Phil Carubia, Mick Thomas)
The 200kV Arctica TEM is optimized for high-throughput, high-resolution imaging for single particle cryo-EM. The available modes of operation for this instrument include TEM, STEM, and cryoTEM/STEM.
- A high-brightness Schottky electron source (X-FEG) is used for high image resolution
- Stable stage for low-drift imaging at cryogenic conditions and high tilt for tomography
- K3 direct electron detector for high-quality TEM imaging
- Gatan BioQuantum energy filter provides zero-loss filtered imaging for increased contrast, especially in thicker specimens
- Automated data collection for single particle EM and tomography using EPU or SerialEM software
- STEM imaging (BF/HAADF/Segmented DF2 + DF4 detectors)
- Autoloader allows up to 10 grids to be loaded under liquid nitrogen and kept under vacuum ready for imaging
- Automatic liquid nitrogen filling allows unattended operation
- 4-GPU workstation for on-the-fly data processing
