Fabrication of Functional Nanofiber Membranes for the Detection of Pollutants

Professor: Margaret Frey
portrait_mfw24Project Description: The objective of this project is to develop functional nanofiber membranes to selectively detect and remove toxic chemicals from water. To this end, block copolymers bearing specific functional groups will be synthesized and later be used as additives in an electrospinning processes to form the functional nanofiber membranes. Nanofiber membranes will be characterized to confirm the functional structure using electron microscopy and spectroscopy techniques and the ability of the membranes to capture a target pollutant for fluorescence will be measured.
