Fibrous Structures for the Capture and Decomposition of Organic Dye Pollutants Primary tabs

Professor: Margaret Frey

portrait_mfw24Project Description
: The objective of this project is to develop a functional fibrous material that can address environmental and textile dye waste water treatment concerns. We will combine the decomposition capabilities of enzymes with the adsorption property of the fibers to remove and break down organic dyes from water. This work can involve reading scholarly research articles, producing the fibers, fiber surface modification for enzyme immobilization, characterizing the material with analytical equipment, and data analysis. This research opportunity can be interesting for undergraduate students who want to explore the intersections between material science, biochemistry, and environmental toxicology.
