Magnetic Imaging Using Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices

Professor: Katja NowackKatja Nowack

Project Description: Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) are among the most sensitive magnetic field sensors that we know. We are operating a microscope that scans a SQUID close to a surface of a sample to obtain images of a sample’s magnetic properties. We use this technique to study a variety of quantum materials including topological insulators, van der Waals materials and superconductors. In this project, the REU student will work with graduate students and faculty to gain experience in SQUID sensors and scanning SQUID microscopy.
