The Cryo-S/TEM bridges the fields of materials and biological sciences, providing a unique platform to conduct interdisciplinary research (biology, engineering, chemistry, and physics) at atomic resolution. Samples ranging from rechargeable batteries and crystals to isolated proteins and cells can be imaged seamlessly.
- A high-brightness Schottky field emission gun (X-FEG) is used for imaging and analysis. A monochromator reduces the intrinsic energy spread from 0.9 eV to 0.2 eV for EELS fine structure analysis.
- A spherical aberration corrector is integrated into its column, which nulls all axial aberrations of the condenser system up to fifth order.
- A prototype second-generation Electron Microscope Pixel Array Detector (EMPAD-G2) is a direct electron detector with high dynamic range and 10,000 fps maximum acquisition rate, enabling unique and powerful imaging and analytical capabilities. Its high current limit per pixel and single electron sensitivity enables the recording of fast, high-quality diffraction patterns for 4-D STEM analysis of local strain, order, orientation, and magnetic and electric fields. Ptychography reconstruction of the 4-D data provides resolution beyond the diffraction limits (≤ 20 pm lateral resolution) and three-dimensional information (≤ 4nm depth resolution).
- Operating voltages of 60, 80, 120, and 300 kV are available, providing resolutions to 0.08 nm (at 300 keV).
- Equipped with a Gatan GIF Tridiem energy filter for EELS and energy filtered imaging. The spectrometer features an UltraScan detector for routine work and a K2 Summit direct electron detector for the highest performance in low-dose EELS.
- A Ceta 16M 4k x 4k CMOS detector for routine TEM and diffraction work
- Single and double tilt holders for room temperature and cryo-work. Retractable cryo-shield for improved stability and reduced contamination with cryo-holders.
- Available modes of operation: TEM, cryo-TEM, cryo-tomography, Bright Field/Dark Field TEM/STEM, EELS, STEM, Lorentz TEM/STEM, and Low Dose imaging
