Become a Facility User

There are a few basic steps to becoming a user of the CCMR Shared Facilities and an independent operator of instrumentation. If you will be sending in samples for analysis as service work, only Steps 1 and 2 are required. The steps below can be performed in any order, but it may be necessary to talk with staff as a first step.

Step 1: Contact instrument staff with questions

If you go to our instrument pages, managing staff are listed along with instrumentation. You can also visit the People page for staff contact information.

Step 2: Request a reservation/billing account for the CCMR's FOM (Facility Online Manager system)

For reporting and security reasons each researcher should have their own FOM login.
Please do not share FOM logins. Multiple users can share the same billing information.

To obtain a user account, please verify the following:

  • I have read and understood the CCMR Shared Facilities Policy and I understand that all persons are required to comply with that Policy and with all CCMR safety instructions, policies, procedures and manuals for the equipment operation. I will review safety procedures/orientations with CCMR facility staff and follow any safety instructions provided.
  • I will take or have taken the Cornell EH&S Laboratory Safety Training or equivalent. I understand that supervised or unsupervised use of or access to the CCMR facilities including, but not limited to laboratories, equipment, instruments and services, may involve subjection to risks and agree to assume all said risks and responsibility for my health, safety, and property while using the facilities.
  • I agree to release Cornell University, its officers, employees, and agents, from any and all liability, claims, or damages of any kind (including but not limited to personal injury) arising from or related to my use of the CCMR facilities, except to the extent caused by the negligence of Cornell University.
  • I further agree to indemnify and hold Cornell University, its officers, agents or employees harmless from any and all liability, claims or damages of any nature whatsoever incurred by Cornell arising out of or related to my use of the CCMR facilities, except to the extent caused by the negligence of Cornell University.

Step 3: Instrument operators only: To be trained, read the appropriate safety and orientation documentation and request room access

The CCMR facility rooms span the campus and have varying safety requirements. Please read the appropriate orientation form(s), where the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) trainings that are required to access the spaces are listed. A completed CCMR orientation access form is required for room and card access.
