TA Instruments 5500 TGA

TA Instruments 5500 Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA) Details

S.T. Olin B78 (Primary Staff: Dimitrios Koumoulis; Secondary Staff: Alicia Tripp)

The TGA detects weight loss as a function of temperature change for a variety of materials including homopolymers, copolymers, high molecular weight compounds, and mixtures of these. The instrument measures thermal stability and heat resistance of these materials. Determination of moisture content of polymers and related materials and the amount of volatiles in elastomer systems is possible. The IR furnace is capable of linear heating rates from 0.1 to 1,000°C/min, and ballistic heating rates at > 600°C/min. CCMR has a sealed pan punch that can be used for air and moisture sensitive samples that require an inert atmosphere up until the run begins.

Sample Requirements:

  • Solid samples only. No viscous, liquid, or semi-liquid samples are permitted.
  • No low molecular weight samples.
