Graduate and Undergraduate Programs

The Cornell Center for Materials Research has the following graduate and undergraduate programs. Please follow the below links for more information:

Career Advancement Program for Engineers and Scientists (CAPES) – This program is designed to improve the competitiveness of Cornell graduate students and postdoctoral scholars entering the workforce, in part by providing training in the important “real-world” skills that are often overlooked in traditional graduate programs, such as public speaking, proposal writing, and effective interview techniques. The CAPES program will also give students a realistic and unbiased view of academic and non-academic career opportunities.

Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) – An amazing program for undergraduates. Students will have the opportunity to work directly with faculty on interdisciplinary materials research projects involving chemistry, physics, materials science, and engineering disciplines. Students will also participate in an organized program of lectures, laboratory visits and a variety of recreational activities. The 10-week program takes place on Cornell’s Ithaca campus and includes a stipend, housing in a University dorm, and additional travel funds for non–CU students, all of which require residency at Cornell campus, attendance of all program sessions, and completion of assigned projects.

In addition, the Educational Outreach Program (EOP) has partnerships with a variety of undergraduate and graduate student organizations that both raise the scientific understanding of the participating students as well as provide assistance to the EOP in its implementation of other programs. Partnerships include the Biomedical Engineering Society, Cornell National Society of Black Engineers, Chemistry Fraternity, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Society of Physics Students, and the Society of Women Engineers.
