Education

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the CCMR Educational Programs Office has suspended all in-person programs for the foreseeable future.

We are pivoting to remote programing. We are mobilizing our resources to create remote learning tools for K-12 educators.

Visit our Remote Learning Resources page for our developing programs.

Welcome to the Home page of the Educational Programs Office (EPO) of the Cornell Center for Materials Science Research (CCMR).

On our site you will find information on the wide range of educational programs presented by our scientists and engineers to K-12 teachers, students, and the community at large.

As Ezra Cornell famously said in 1868, “I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.”

Here you can find any STEM lesson for any K-12 grade. See our Lending Library of Experiments, activity videos, activity lessons, and lesson plans designed by classroom teachers. Please follow the links below or on the menu to the left.

The Educational Programs Office has developed a five-point mission statement in light of NSF goals:

1. Raise the quality of K-12 science education. See K-12 Student Programs and Teacher Programs.

2. Raise the quality of graduate and undergraduate science education. See Graduate and Undergraduate Programs.

3. Increase the exposure of the community to scientific concepts and new technological achievements. See Community Programs.

4. Advance the participation of groups traditionally underrepresented in science. See Community Programs, K-12 Student Programs, Graduate and Undergraduate Programs.

5. Enlarge the pool of students who become our future scientists.
