Community Programs

CCMR is helping to raise the scientific awareness of the general population in a variety of programs. We run Families Learning Science Together (FLST), a hands-on science program for children ages 5 and up and their parents or caregivers. This program is co-sponsored with the Tompkins County Public Library (TCPL) in downtown Ithaca, NY.

Our Education Outreach Program (EOP) has been working with the Ithaca Youth Bureau (IYB) since the summer of 2004. Our ongoing collaborations have included several of the Youth Bureau’s programs such as IYB Summer Camp, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Afterschool Program.

CCMR scientists also work with community groups such as the Greater Ithaca Activities Center to provide programs for a primarily African American and Hispanic audience.

In the past, EOP has presented Ask a Scientist in the Ithaca Journal and the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin, which reached more than 80,000 readers. Chemistry Day at the Mall presented STEM activities and Nanodays and SpookyScience was presented at the Ithaca Sciencenter.
