New Methods for the Synthesis of Green Polymers

Project Description: Polymers are indispensable in many aspects of everyday life. Unfortunately the synthesis and disposal of polymers pose a threat to the environment. In this project, new methods for the synthesis of environmentally friendly polymers will be sought. The research project will focus on using biorenewable monomers (such as carbon dioxide) and making new biodegradable polymers. This work will involve organic synthesis, catalyst design, and polymer synthesis and characterization.
